Field Trips: Learning Through Exploration
At Homegrown Learning, education doesn’t stop at the edge of our property—it expands out into our community and world. Our field trips are a cherished part of our program, giving children the opportunity to explore new environments, encounter real-world concepts, and experience the joy of learning through adventure and discovery. Whether exploring the planets and stars at the Fleischmann Planetarium visiting the Waste Management Recycling Center, learning state history at the Nevada State Museum in Carson City, getting their hands dirty at Urban Roots, or becoming Slime Scientist to end the learning year, each field trip offers fresh perspective, deeper understanding, and unforgettable memories.
These experiences are about more than just seeing something new—they teach our students how to adapt to different environments, take responsibility as part of a group, and observe the world with curiosity and care. As children walk through museums, listen to guest educators, or explore unfamiliar settings, they develop critical life skills:
self-regulation, social awareness, and real-world application of the topics they learn at the co-op. Field trips also reinforce the idea that community is a classroom,

and that learning is everywhere—from the stars above to the soil below. These outings remind children that they are part of a larger world, one filled with people, places, and systems they can engage with, care for, and contribute to.
At Homegrown Learning, we value the power of new experiences to inspire wonder, confidence, and connection—and our field trips bring that to life.
